Soba Noodles, Cucumber, Soy, Ginger, Top Round Steak
This week we are talking about what we locally call “Merienda”, which is basically a between meals dish or a snack. I have always said that it is always easier to loose weight when you are the one preparing all your food, since this gives you a true perspective of what you are ingesting and can actually open your eyes to what restaurants sometime put in dishes to make it all taste a little bit better. If you are really trying your best to loose weight then you know one of the hardest things to deal with is when you are away from your house and you have a hunger pang or feel that your blood sugar is dropping and need to eat something before turning into a useless zombie at work who will spend the rest of the day on youtube watching cat videos or on websites such as mine. If this happens to you frequently it’s always best to be prepared by either having packed a snack or knowing where you can go to grab something healthy.
Honestly, if you live in Manila, you will know that there are not a whole lot of healthy choices out there (well, i’m working on something for first quarter next year to make sure that you are always close to a healthy meal ;) ). What i usually do in times i forgot to bring lunch or a snack is head straight to 711 or a supermarket and grab some of these healthy items:
- A can of tuna
- Boiled Sweet Potatoes
- Coconut Water
To be honest you could probably go down to your corner Jolli Jeep and more often then not they have boiled Saba or Bananas, just omit the rolling and caramelizing in the sugar part.
Here is a quick meal that you can prepare ahead of time that is nutritious, keeps well in the fridge and tastes like something clean you would crave for over and over.
The bowls and takeaway compartment seen in the video can be found in Muji! They are running a promo this month: Buy any 2 selected items to get 25% off on your total purchase – From Sept 27 to Oct 13
Very cool store if you like everything Japanese minimalist and neat. I use a lot of their crockery for my plating.
