Brunei Travel Video and Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards 2011

This is Besides the point: But my One Day in Transit Brunei Travel Video is lower down in this post, be sure to check it out, I had 8 hours before my flight, a hungry stomach and my camera in hand. A recipe for bored creativity. There are also some great tracks from local Pinoy indie artist from Number Line Records (http://numberlinerecords.com). Notably, Love in Athens, ModuloGeek and Multo. This is all about Pinoy Pride anyways.

So I’ve been nominated to represent the Philippines at the annual Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards 2011 in the category of best Food Blog of South East Asia. Pretty rad right (don’t mind me I’ve just always wanted to try to bring back the word rad)? Well that’s what i thought!

http://awards.nuffnang.com/2011/votes Vote for me here (tonight and before 27/11/11) to be selected the best food blogger in South East Asia! Let’s make the Philippines kick some serious butt.

At first I was wondering why I’d be selected to be the best food blog in the country (no fake modesty here – seriously), I’m not a food blog that posts very often, in fact I can go two weeks without posting anything, I don’t give insights into restaurants and don’t belive myself a critic and I certainly don’t go around surgically attached to my camera (like most food bloggers), snapping away at food to post it online, not caring if it gets cold, oh god no. If I do take pictures of food, it’s really so that I can remember what it taste like and adapt the recipe to something original once I get home. I guess the main difference between me and other food enthusiast is that I don’t just want people to read my rants, complaints and praises, I want people to participate and interact with the food I present to them and have them look at food under a whole different light. That’s probably why I was chosen, I’m the non-food blogger, food blogger, who doesn’t like to be called a blogger. If that makes sense. It does to me, and if you’ve been reading me for a while now, it probably does to you too.

An entertaining post for me is, an awesome video, sensical writing, a killer soundtrack with music I’ve just discovered, a personal food recipe, memories of dishes I’ve eaten and the realisation that we are all fat kids in the inside.

So I will be flying out to Malaysia on December 16th to attend the award ceremony, why not? its free, fun and if i get bored, i’ll just sneak out and eat all the best Malaysian street food i can get my hands on and I’ll make a self-proclaimed travel video about it!

More importantly, it would be awesome to win this one for the Philippines!

So if you want to see a video, like the one, hereunder, i just made about my one day in Brunei, or if you want to give this Filipino food blog and fighting international chance, or if you actually like what i do, or even if you just feel like clicking stuff today, vote for me on this link: (please?) (tonight and before 27/11/11) http://awards.nuffnang.com/2011/votes

Thank you all so much for your help, support and a special tip of the hat to those amognst you who enjoy reading my brain monologues and who actually try out my recipes!

For the exact reasons you stated, I follow your blog, and have stopped or unsubscribed to most others (except for Whole Foods, Sur La Table, W-S, Bourdain, etc., of course =D). What is also great is your fans/followers are all really positive and unpretentious. People just want to learn about food, and you have such a laid back, yet cutting edge manner in presenting your information, it really seems like you are virtually sitting in your kitchen and breaking bread with all of us. Thanks for your blog, and good luck in the awards process; you deserve a win! mc from Austin, TX (but in Tagaytay).

Came across your blog. Can’t believe you blog about food in Brunei. I’m a Bruneian. :) they serve good food right? Hehe. I’ve been to Philippines and the food there is awesome and not far different from Brunei. You stay longer in Brunei and go to Seria or Kuala Belait. You’ll taste same food with different taste.

Great blog! I hope you win the nuffnang blog award.

Thanks for reading my article, Erwan! :) The reason why I posted that article because I want to let them know that we, as bloggers had our own thing. Hope we can represent our own country for NAPBAS. Getting some nasty comments on Nuffnang’s Innit website few months ago, when they learned that I am a Filipino. And they said that they didn’t know that there were a lot of us, Pinoy Nuffnangers always online on Innit.

      Hi Erwan,

Well done on the video! It’s fun that you have this knack for translating your passion into some germs that’s good for everyone to catch :)

I really like that you mentioned what sets you apart from other foodies-slash-food-bloggers. I read food blogs each day as part of my work as a Social Media Strategist for a Foodie Community and I love it but it’s an added delight someone like you who doesn’t just blog for the sake of raving about something they cooked – to to be praised but to actually raise awareness.

I’ve read tons of blogs a few months back mainly because we gave appreciation to the Top 50 Food Bloggers of 2011 and I’m definitely adding you to my personal favorites now.

You and Yugatech both have my votes. And in case others are not aware of it, you could actually vote EVERY couple of hours. The Fat Kid Inside and Philippines FTW! :)

      Once again, thank you!

I wonder why you have to take an 8 hour stop over in Brunei for your trip from Manila to Kuala LUmpur. Even cheap airlines Air Asia and Cebu pacific fly direct to Kl from Manila which is only about 4 hours trip.

Why waste 8 hours in Brunei? And why buy a ticket which has an 8 hours stop over in Brunei, you could have chosen to stop over in Singapore at least that 8 hours in Changi airport would not be a waste ,you could actually go swimming and even watch a movie inside the airport itself

i never said i went to KL i said i went to Malaysia, La Buan more specifically, and brunei is closer than KL is to that city. good enough of an explanation?

I just discovered your blog today and really like it so far. Being a Bruneian studying overseas, your video made me miss home so much. I literally live 10 minutes away from where you took this video and La Mee is the last place I eat before getting on my flight back to the UK at the end of vacations. So happy you tried the noodles there, they are great. Food is most definitely the most important aspect of life in Brunei, it’s just how things are. You should come visit again, and even if you’ve already tried Malay food in KL you should sample some of the traditional fare. You will be able to taste the difference.

about THE FAT KID

I gained weight because of a sedentary lifestyle and overly indulging in foods I knew were bad for me, eating out too often, taking the easy route (microwavable dishes) and not caring what went in my body, before I knew it reached 240 lbs. I lost weight through pure dedication, tireless hours of hard work and yes, food. I cooked my way to fitness, making sure to only feed myself tasty well prepared dishes with all the right stuff, the perfect fuel, taking me down to 150lbs. Of course I indulge from time to time, as the fat kid still lurks inside of me; here you will find a little bit of everything for the sole purpose of sharing my passion for food and life.
