Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But most people, especially employees who are required to be at their desks at an early hour, take it for granted by eating unhealthy takeout or sugar-laden cereal or worst, skip the meal entirely.
In fact, reports have shown that 1 in 10 adults don’t eat breakfast at all. Sad to say that present consumer lifestyles and a busier schedule have put more stress on mornings, pushing breakfast further down the ‘to-do’ list.
Our friends from London have come up with this new trend that’s dominating the workplace and making the most important meal of the day healthier—the deskfast. What’s a deskfast, you ask? It’s desk + breakfast and it’s part of “A Better Breakfast Campaign.”
At first, nutritionists were horrified by the idea of not eating breakfast at home. But it turned out that thanks to deskfasts, people were eating less sugary cereals and more healthy things, like sandwiches, breakfast muffins or porridge. And needless to say, eating your breakfast at work is definitely better than skipping it entirely.
We at The Fat Kid Inside support this “Better Breakfast Campaign” so for Deskfast Day, here are some of our deskfasts this morning!

Protein filled deskfast! 2 boiled eggs, 1 serving Greek yogurt, and a banana! Sorry , I already ate the banana!
Ham and egg on bread and for “dessert,” a banana!
Oatmeal with plain yogurt sweetened with maple syrup and brown sugar. Topped with fresh Baguio strawberries and mangoes which shows the beginning of summer here in the Philippines. For crunch I added crushed barquillos.
I would be the first to say that meals should never be eaten in front of a screen, be it the television, a computer, or phone. But let’s be honest. Especially on work nights when you had too much fun out with friends or got caught up binge watching Youtube in bed pastmidnight, a “deskfast” is the best alternative to having none. I am predominantly on a low carb diet so a bowl of yogurt with fresh fruit, a dazzle of nuts and seeds powers me until lunch. Easy and healthy.
Banana Bread and Cocoa Banana Smoothie. The smoothie I whip up at home and sometimes that’s all I have when we’re particularly busy at the hotel Front Office.
While preparing for my presentation this morning, I am happily devouring my Mango-Coco Overnight Chia and Oats Pudding together with Papaya. It’s a tropical deskfast for me!
