I grew up in a family of cooks. It’s both a blessing and a curse as it blessed me with good food everyday that cursed me with my big body. Because of our family’s love for food, I mostly spent my allowance on food–even saving some to buy something to eat at home while I watched TV or read a book.
Because of this and my lack of self-control, at the age of 18, I was 253 lbs, with a 42 inch waistline, and a XXL-sized shirt. I was obese but I didn’t care. I was used to being called stout, fat, pig, even elephant that I was never offended by it. It was something that I accepted.
Then came a point in my life when I realized I wanted to do small things that normal people could do like tying my own shoelaces, going up the stairs without running out of breath, and sleeping without snoring. I didn’t want to die young because of my unhealthy ways. The best motivation I had was that I wanted to have a family some day.
So I started researching home exercises to lose weight. Since we had a stationary bike at home, I started riding it for at least 30 minutes to an hour every day. I also started to do planking, sit-ups, and push-ups. My main goal during exercise is to be drenched in sweat that I looked like I went on a shower.
I also changed my eating habits. I resisted my daily craving of sweets and salty snacks and resisted the urge to eat my usual serving of rice. I would only have “cheat days” after two weeks of successful exercise. I continued this daily routine for three months and I lost 77 lbs. As of today, my weight is 152 lbs with a 32 inch waist line. That’s a 100 lb and 10 inch difference in 5 months. And it started with me simply doing it.
Weight Loss Tips
You want and need it. Everything starts because of your own desire.
Believe that you can achiever your goal. Never underestimate your capacity to accomplish a specific aim. Always begin with an end in mind.
Don’t make excuses. Once you are on the process, don’t entertain laziness and temptations. Focus on what must be done every single day. Eradicate this thinking: I will not do my exercise today and will just double time the next day–the next thing you know, you already stopped.
Have an inspiration. It can be your ambition to achieve something greater, your family, your friends, or even something you desire. Use your inspiration as fuel to fire you up.
Have self-control. Control your cravings and urges for food.
Change your eating habits. Eat more fruits and vegetables. They are the best meal for the day. Don’t eat much during dinner, avoid eating fatty foods, and check your calorie intake. Eat three times a day with the correct amount of food. AND do not skip meals.
Drink plenty of water. When you wake up every morning, drink 2-3 glasses of water and do not eat for breakfast the next 45 minutes because the water will flash out the toxins inside. Also, water will leave us refreshed and hydrated.
Exercise daily. Have a set of daily exercise but do not forget to challenge yourself with new exercises.
Enjoy and have fun. Make sure that all the things we do will make us happy. As you see the changes occurring within you in every step, feel free to absorb it and be proud of what is happening within you.
Ask God’s guidance. None of these tips will pass if without His will to help you. Always thank Him for the opportunity, inspiration, and strength He blessed us.
I hope that the readers will get something out of my experience. A life I am privileged to share. Stay fit and live a healthy lifestyle. God bless!
