The Origin of Pancake Day and My Favorite Pancake Recipes

Bet you didn’t know that Pancake Tuesday is celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday–the start of Lent. Called Fat Tuesdays (or Mardi Gras) in other countries, this is so because come lent, we give up eating all sorts of fatty and indulgent kinds of food.

So why pancakes you ask? For one thing, making pancakes were a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.
