So we’re halfway through with FREEGO’s SuperShapeMe Fitness Challenge, and let me just update you guys on how proud I am of the 20 participants. If you haven’t been following their progress through our Viber Public Chat, viber.com/fitnessandhealth, you better do now, because believe me, there’s a whole lot of inspiration, motivation, and yes, a daily dose of funny, amusing things going on there.

Initially, the Viber Public Chat was intended as a tool for us #SuperShapeMe coaches to monitor the 20. But pretty soon it turned into something even better. It became our support group, a 24/7 device for Q&As about fitness and health (and many other things in between), and most importantly, a venue for us to get to know each other—where we’re coming from and where we’re all hopefully heading to: a better, healthier lifestyle change.

Here’s why:

IT SERVES AS OUR ONLINE FITNESS BUDDY—TIMES 20

Or even more. Because aside from the 20 #SuperShapeMe participants, they’ve got coach Chris Tiu and me on board, as well as the FREEGO team, and guests tuning in to the Viber group. We got Jom Garcia, last year’s winner with us, CrossFit MNL’s Coach Matt, and recently our guest from the Baron Method, nutritionist Harvie de Baron.

So imagine that whole lot sharing and exchanging ideas, information, and whatever else you can think of. The Viber group is where we share fitness apps that help us keep track of our progress. We also share recipes and ingredients or alternatives we’ve either tried or researched about. We also like to talk about what we’re up to. Like when I’ve just finished a workout, or when one of them is feeling lazy to go to the gym, or when one’s scheduling a group workout.

Although there would be times when it’d get out of hand, and they would chat about so many things not related to the program. Sometimes it gives me a headache to back read. What I did was deduct points from those flooding the Viber chat with unrelated stuff, especially those posting selfies. But then I guess it’s all part of the fun and camaraderie. As I’ve said in my checkup video of them, I noticed that they’re all really bonded now and that helps a lot. So now I just deduct points—or take away stars—from those who don’t follow the #SuperShapeMe guidelines.

They share practically everything to the group, from well-plated meals to the #thestruggleisreal experiences of saying no to bad food. And I’m just there to tell them that they did a good job, or to suck it up.

IT SERVES AS OUR 24/7 NUTRITION AND FITNESS DOCTOR

If you’ll notice in the beginning they would keep asking questions, particularly on what and what not to eat. Mostly it’s when they were also confused regarding the type of workouts to combine. Like when one felt he wasn’t doing much because he wasn’t sweating; another felt she was doing too much because she had an acid reflux. So it’s good that they can consult with us #SuperShapeMe coaches to check on them and advise them with what to do ASAP.

Even better was that, after the days progressed, you’ll see how they’re already policing each other. Sometimes I don’t even have to answer their questions anymore. They pitch in with what they know, have researched, or remember from the workout sessions. Plus points for everyone.

See how everyone tries to pitch in when someone asks a question.

IT SERVES AS OUR DAILY REMINDER ON WHY WE’VE STARTED THIS 60-DAY CHALLENGE

To be honest, by now I think they’re on their own now, and I’m really just here to sit back, relax, and cheer them on from time to time. Like I’d chime in and remind them to work out (or sometimes, still deduct points) when I feel like all they’re doing is chit-chatting on the Viber group.

I think they’ve learned a lot, and most of them, especially for those who are active on the Viber group, seem to have gotten to the rhythm of a healthy lifestyle already. And while it’s really great seeing that, they do have a long way to go—and that’s why the group is here.

I like how I’m able to Viber them like my own fitness group. After all, we’re now sharing the same goals, same passion for having that healthy lifestyle forever. In a way, I’m reminded of my own fat-to-fit story, and their sentiments only make me more passionate to share what I know, too.

So get on board with us and follow us on viber.com/fitnessandhealth.

The #SuperShapeMe Viber group is a quick and efficient way to remind them of their #goals and help them put things back to perspective, when I feel they are straying away.
